Kids love animals and our animals love kids. They'll eat right out of your hands and beg for treats. Surrounded by Wapiti Western Wildlife Park® and next to the burro rides, this corner of the Park is an animal lover's dream.
One of the most massive gorges in the world.
The gorge was created some three million years ago when a trickle of water first began to slowly carve a canyon out of the solid granite bedrock. Today that trickle is the raging Arkansas, one of America's longest rivers. And the masterpiece it continues to carve at a rate of one foot every 2,500 years is the Royal Gorge.
The Royal Gorge is considered a world wonder often referred to as the Grand Canyon of the Arkansas River. Yet it's unlike any other canyon. The width at the canyon bottom is no more than 40 to 50 feet, while the top measures only a few hundred feet.
Perched on the very edge of the Royal Gorge's north rim, the Visitors Center (and wrap-around deck) gives the faint of heart solid ground from which to view all the natural attractions. It's the theme park's largest shopping venue, with unusual items running the gamut from "Made in Colorado" to Disney® collectables. Inside is the Royal Grill, offering daily dining specials in a relaxing sit-down environment.
Marking the grand entrance to the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, this unique time-keeping creation is one of only three in the world, and the only one in Colorado. Its splashing water cascades from bucket to bucket, keeping track of every minute of the day. Located in front of the Visitors Center, its flowers and lush plantings make this one of the favorite photo opportunities in the Park.
The Wapiti Western Wildlife Park is a 10-acre exhibit nestled within the larger Park on the south rim. Featuring a unique combination of native Colorado wildlife in their natural habitat, including the white American Bison, a herd of Rocky Mountain Elk and the seldom-seen but unforgettable icons of the mountains, the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. It's a one-of-a-kind opportunity on your vacation for the entire family to see these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. And with our successful breeding program, you never know what new baby animals you'll see camouflaged against the background of wildflowers and fragrant evergreens. Animal lovers and adventurous kids will love this real Western experience.
